The Office of Sustainability at the City of Austin is delighted to introduce its newest team member, Leti Alvarez. Leti will be providing valuable administrative support in the creation of a regional climate action plan. Like recent additions Mali and Tasnuva, Leti's position is funded through the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant, offered under the Inflation Reduction Act.

Leti Alvarez, born and raised in Austin, Texas, has a deep love for her hometown. Reflecting on the ever-changing city, Leti expresses her joy in discovering new spots for food, coffee, and shopping. She also enjoys exploring the vibrant murals that adorn the streets of Austin.

When asked about her decision to join the Office of Sustainability, Leti shares her excitement about being part of the City of Austin and the close-knit community within the office. With a background in the medical field, Leti has embarked on a new career path and is relishing the experience so far.

As Leti begins her journey with the Office of Sustainability, she expresses her eagerness to support the bigger picture and expand her knowledge in sustainability. She is particularly passionate about educating individuals, especially those who may not have access to resources, on simple steps they can take to contribute to a sustainable future.

Outside of work, Leti and her husband enjoy exploring the dynamic city of Austin. They have recently embraced the concept of "staycations," immersing themselves in the ever-growing array of activities and experiences the city has to offer. As self-proclaimed foodies, Leti and her husband take pleasure in visiting local restaurants and learning about the stories behind their owners and their journey to Austin.

When it comes to sustainable practices in her personal life, Leti shares her love for thrifting. She and her family find joy in repurposing found items to furnish their homes and appreciate the value of "new to us" clothing.

Finally, when asked about her favorite food, Leti's eyes light up as she mentions her husband's barbecue. She describes his expertise in smoking various meats, particularly his perfectly cooked brisket and smoked barbacoa. Leti believes there is nothing quite like her husband's barbecue in the entire town.

The Office of Sustainability welcomes Leti Alvarez with open arms and looks forward to the valuable contributions she will make in their mission to create a sustainable future for Austin and beyond.
