WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas), chairman emeritus of the House Committee on Homeland Security, delivered a speech on the House floor today in support of the resolution to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

In his remarks, Congressman McCaul criticized Secretary Mayorkas for failing to uphold his oath to protect the nation from all enemies, foreign and domestic. He accused Mayorkas of violating the public trust and neglecting his duty to enforce the law. McCaul, with his extensive experience dealing with border issues, expressed his concern about the broken state of the border, which he attributed to Mayorkas' actions.

McCaul highlighted the detrimental consequences of Mayorkas' policies, such as the rescission of the successful Remain in Mexico policy. He pointed out the alarming statistics resulting from Mayorkas' dereliction of duty, including eight million encounters, 300 individuals on the terror watchlist, and 2.3 million aliens released into the interior of the country.

Furthermore, McCaul emphasized the devastating impact of Mayorkas' actions on American lives, stating that 200,000 young Americans have died due to fentanyl poisoning. He firmly asserted that Mayorkas is the "architect of destruction" and provided legal justification for his impeachment.

Referring to a Supreme Court decision, McCaul argued that Mayorkas' failure to enforce a statute mandating the detention of aliens who have committed aggravated felonies is a clear violation of the law. He accused Mayorkas of releasing dangerous and violent criminals into American communities, thereby putting every American life at risk.

Drawing on the words of Supreme Court Justice Story from 1833, McCaul likened Mayorkas' negligence in defending the borders to an impeachable offense. He stated that the Founders believed neglect of duty, violation of public trust, and injury to society were grounds for impeachment.

McCaul highlighted the support for impeachment from President Biden's own solicitor general, who acknowledged that in the face of a significant abdication of statutory responsibility by the executive branch, impeachment would be warranted. McCaul concluded his remarks by affirming his commitment to the nation and his intention to vote in favor of removing Mayorkas from office.

In summary, Congressman McCaul's speech on the House floor expressed his support for the resolution to impeach Secretary Mayorkas, citing his failure to uphold the law, violation of public trust, and neglect of duty in defending the borders.
