On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, a tragic traffic accident occurred at the intersection of El Salido Parkway and N FM 620 Road in Austin, Texas. The incident involved a collision between a pickup truck and an SUV, resulting in the death of the SUV driver and minor injuries to the pickup truck occupants.

According to the Austin Police Department (APD), the driver of the SUV, identified as Adam Sams Weedy, a 53-year-old white male, tragically lost his life at the scene of the crash. The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were immediately transported to a local hospital, where they received treatment for their minor injuries.

Authorities have confirmed that the driver of the pickup truck was not intoxicated and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. The incident is being investigated as Austin's second fatal crash of 2024, bringing the total number of fatalities to two for the year. It is worth noting that on the same date in the previous year, three fatal crashes occurred, resulting in four fatalities.

"While we are still in the early stages of our investigation, these initial findings indicate a tragic loss of life," commented an APD spokesperson. "We urge anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has any information to come forward and assist us in our investigation."

The APD's Vehicular Homicide unit is leading the investigation and can be reached at 512-974-8111. Alternatively, individuals can choose to submit tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477.

As the investigation continues, it is important to note that the information regarding this fatality may change. The APD will provide updates as they become available.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of Adam Sams Weedy during this difficult time.
