On Monday, February 5, 2024, a tragic traffic accident occurred in the 13400 block of N SH 45 WB in Austin, Texas. The incident involved a collision between a pickup truck and an 18-wheeler, resulting in the death of the unidentified driver of the pickup truck.

According to the Austin Police Department (APD), the pickup truck crashed into the back of the tractor trailer at approximately 6:46 a.m. The driver of the 18-wheeler was unharmed in the accident and has been fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

"This incident is being investigated as Austin's 4th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 4 fatalities for the year," stated the APD. Comparatively, on the same date in 2023, there were 10 fatal crashes resulting in 10 fatalities.

It is important to note that the details mentioned above are based on the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and further investigation is still pending. Therefore, there may be changes to the fatality information as the investigation progresses.

The APD's Vehicular Homicide unit is currently leading the investigation. They are urging anyone with any information about the incident to come forward. "Anyone with any information should contact APD's Vehicular Homicide unit at 512-974-8111," the authorities emphasized.
