On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, a tragic traffic accident occurred in Austin, Texas. At around 2:27 a.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a crash in the 6400 block of W Highway 290 WB. This incident resulted in the loss of an unidentified individual's life.
According to preliminary investigations, the crash involved two vehicles and a pedestrian. A pickup truck collided with the rear of an SUV, causing the pickup truck to strike a pedestrian. Tragically, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Jacob Sussman, a 41-year-old white male, has been arrested on charges of Intoxication Manslaughter.
The driver of the SUV, fortunately, did not sustain any injuries and cooperated fully with the ongoing investigation. The Austin Police Department has classified this incident as the eighth fatal crash in the city for the year 2024, resulting in a total of eight fatalities so far. Comparatively, on the same date in 2023, there were 12 fatal crashes that claimed the lives of 12 individuals.
