Traffic Fatality at the Intersection of 7th Street and Red River Street

Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a tragic incident at the intersection of East 7th Street and Red River Street in the early hours of Tuesday, March 12, 2024. One pedestrian lost their life, and another sustained severe injuries in a crash involving a vehicle. The suspect vehicle fled the scene, continuing east on East 7th Street.

According to the initial assessment, this incident marks Austin's 13th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 13 fatalities for the year. This is a decrease from the same date in 2023 when there were 20 fatal crashes resulting in 20 fatalities.

The authorities have appealed to the public for any information regarding the incident. APD's Vehicular Homicide unit can be reached at 512-974-8111. Alternatively, individuals can submit tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477.

As the investigation into this tragic event continues, the identities of those involved have not been disclosed. The APD is actively working to gather more information and piece together the details surrounding the fatal crash.
