Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and British Airways recently marked the 10th year anniversary of their transatlantic service, commemorating a decade of connecting over 1.25 million customers between Austin and London. The celebration, which took place at AUS, was filled with joyous moments and expressions of gratitude.

Mayor Pro Tem Leslie Pool highlighted the significance of the partnership, emphasizing how it strengthens cultural ties between Austin and Europe. She stated, “This route doesn’t just link our two cities, it connects us with cultural powerhouses all across Europe, amplifying Austin’s influence and impact on the international scene.”

Neil Chernoff, Chief Planning and Strategy Officer at British Airways, expressed appreciation for the support received from the Austin community. Chernoff remarked, “Celebrating ten years of flying between Austin and London is a testament to the strong relationship we've built with this incredible city and its people. We’re proud to have played a role in connecting friends, families, and businesses.”

The festivities included a Texas-style celebration, with AUS crew donning western boots and offering a warm “howdy” to arriving passengers. British Airways even collaborated with Austin’s famous Franklin Barbecue to create special edition bottles of BBQ sauce, adding a local touch to the event.

Looking ahead, both AUS and British Airways expressed excitement for the future. The partnership has not only facilitated travel but also contributed to the economic growth of Austin. A spokesperson for AUS mentioned, “Our partnership marked a pivotal point for Austin, creating and supporting thousands of jobs and cultivating growth and economic development.”

Passengers flying from Austin to London in March can savor a Texas-inspired barbecue menu on board, showcasing the culinary essence of Austin. British Airways continues to offer direct flights to London, providing travelers with easy access to iconic destinations in the United Kingdom.

As the celebrations wrapped up, the sentiment of gratitude and optimism for the future resonated. The bond between AUS and British Airways remains strong, promising continued connectivity and collaboration in the years to come.
