The Office of Sustainability in Austin is inviting residents to take part in the Earth Month Challenge to promote environmental consciousness and sustainable practices throughout the month of April. The challenge aims to engage Austinites in activities that support a greener and healthier city, with the opportunity to win prizes by completing various sustainability-focused tasks.
Participants are encouraged to complete a minimum of six out of eight challenges between April 1 and May 1 to be eligible for prize drawings. The challenges cover a range of eco-friendly activities, from climate-friendly trips to plant-based meals, zero-waste initiatives, energy-efficient adventures, tree care, air quality checks, and sharing sustainability learnings.
The Earth Month Challenge offers two prize tiers for participants based on the number of challenges completed. Those who fulfill at least six challenges will be entered into the "Sustainability Star" category, with a chance to win one of ten prize packages containing eco-friendly items such as a tee shirt, a reusable canvas tote bag, stickers, wildflower seeds, and a bandana.
For the more ambitious participants who complete all eight challenges, they will be placed in the "Sustainability Superhero" category. In addition to the prizes in the Sustainability Star package, Sustainability Superheroes have the opportunity to choose between a one-year Texas State Parks Pass or a Dual Membership to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Furthermore, all individuals completing all eight challenges will receive an Office of Sustainability sticker as a token of recognition.
The challenges encompass a variety of activities, from adopting climate-friendly transportation methods to embracing plant-based meals, striving for zero-waste practices, engaging in energy-efficient endeavors, caring for trees, monitoring air quality, and spreading awareness about sustainability within their communities.
Participants are encouraged to document their progress and share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #EarthDayATX. By fostering a sense of environmental responsibility and encouraging sustainable actions, the Earth Month Challenge aims to cultivate a culture of eco-consciousness and stewardship within the Austin community.
