Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a tragic incident on Friday, March 22, 2024, in the 6200 block of N Capital of Texas highway SB. The crash involved two SUVs and resulted in the death of Tawnya Sanders. The driver of the other vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries.
According to the initial assessment, this incident marks Austin's 18th fatal crash of 2024, with 18 fatalities recorded so far this year. Reflecting on the same date in 2023, there were 24 fatal crashes resulting in 24 fatalities.
The investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing, with APD's Vehicular Homicide unit looking into the details.
