Austin, Texas - In a tragic turn of events, a fatal traffic accident occurred in the 8700 block of E Highway 290 WB, claiming the life of Jacoby Dywayne Larue Mahome. The incident took place on Friday, March 15, 2024, at approximately 6:16 a.m.
According to the Austin Police Department (APD), Mahome, a Black male born on October 11, 1993, was the driver involved in the single-vehicle crash. Sadly, Mahome was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the passenger was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash marks the 16th fatal accident in Austin for the year 2024, with a total of 16 fatalities. Comparatively, on the same date in 2023, there were 22 fatal crashes leading to 22 deaths.
Authorities have stressed that the information provided is based on the initial assessment of the incident, and the investigation is ongoing. They caution that details regarding the fatality may evolve as more information becomes available.
