Austin-Bergstrom International Airport recently celebrated Earth Day with an event at the Barbara Jordan Terminal, where they highlighted their sustainability efforts. One of the team members at the event shared, "Yup, you heard that right, I’ll bet you didn’t know AUS achieved Level 3+ Carbon Neutrality for the 3rd straight year through the ACI – Airports Carbon Accreditation Program!"

The airport's commitment to sustainability is evident in various initiatives. For instance, AUS has achieved Level 3+ Carbon Neutrality for the third consecutive year, making it one of just six airports in North America to reach this accreditation level. This accomplishment signifies AUS's successful reduction of emissions and offsetting of residual emissions through carbon-cutting projects. AUS's efforts extend beyond its own operations to collaborate with airlines for environmental impact reduction.

Looking ahead, AUS is aiming for Level 4+ Transition next year, intensifying their carbon-cutting endeavors and supporting tenants on-site to do the same. Another interesting fact shared was, "Need to charge your phone? Don’t worry, you’re charging it with 100% wind energy from West Texas! AUS is making huge impacts through Austin Energy’s Green Choice program."

Moreover, the airport boasts seven acres of solar panels in partnership with Austin Energy, providing renewable energy benefits and powering numerous homes annually. Additionally, over 30% of AUS's shuttle bus fleet operates on renewable natural gas, significantly reducing carbon emissions. In 2023 alone, AUS saved over 12,000,000 gallons of potable water by using reclaimed water for irrigation, showcasing their dedication to sustainable practices.
