Pedestrian killed in traffic accident on Ed Bluestein Boulevard

On Thursday, May 23, at approximately 9:48 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 7100 block of the Ed Bluestein Boulevard Southbound Service Road. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced deceased on Friday, May 24, 2024. The driver remained on scene, was not impaired, was not injured, and is cooperating with the investigation.

This incident is being investigated as Austin's 29th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 29 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, there had been 36 fatal crashes resulting in 36 fatalities.

These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending. Fatality information may change.
