On Saturday, August 10, 2024, at approximately 8:58 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a single motorcycle crash in the 2400 block of E SH 71 SVRD EB. The motorcyclist, identified as Deborah Barela, was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 53rd fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 56 fatalities for the year. On the same date in 2023, there were 56 fatal crashes resulting in 59 fatalities.
