Traffic fatality reported on South IH-35 NB involving multiple vehicles

On Thursday, August 15, 2024, at approximately 11:27 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash involving five vehicles in the 12500 block of South IH-35 northbound. One driver, later identified as Pedro Arroyo, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased on August 17, 2024. The occupants of a second vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the remaining three vehicles were not injured.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 56th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 60 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, there had been 59 fatal crashes resulting in 62 fatalities.

These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash and the investigation is still pending. Fatality information may change.
