Two pedestrians killed in traffic accident on North Lamar Boulevard

On Saturday, August 24, 2024, at approximately 2:26 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and two pedestrians in the 6500 block of North Lamar Boulevard. The pedestrians, identified as Antonio Luis Trevino Maldonado and Johnny Joe Reyes, were pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver remained on-site and was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI).

The incident marks Austin’s 57th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 61 fatalities for the year. Comparatively, by this date in 2023, there had been 60 fatal crashes resulting in 63 fatalities.

APD's initial assessment of the crash is ongoing and subject to change as the investigation progresses.
