Sherles Gregorio Machado-Hernandez was apprehended in the 900 block of Fairfield Drive in North Central Austin following an extensive search operation conducted by the Austin Police Department (APD) and other agencies. The coordinated effort involved APD patrol officers, APD Air1, APD Missing Persons, APD Metro-tac, the APD Violent Crimes Task Force, APD Tactical Intel, and the Department of Public Safety (DPS). Machado-Hernandez is currently being held at the Travis County Jail.

The arrest is connected to a double homicide investigation initiated on October 14, 2024. On that morning, police responded to a report from the 1800 block of Burton Drive where they discovered two individuals dead inside a vehicle. Both victims had sustained gunshot wounds. An Amber Alert was subsequently issued for three children related to one of the deceased victims; however, they were later found safe.

Machado-Hernandez had been identified as a suspect earlier but was considered armed and dangerous until his recent capture. Authorities had advised anyone who saw him not to approach but instead call emergency services immediately.

A news conference is scheduled for tomorrow where more details will be provided regarding this case. The exact time for this briefing has yet to be determined.
