Austin records its 70th traffic fatality of the year

On October 4, 2024, at approximately 5:15 a.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a single-vehicle collision at the intersection of East US 290 HWY SVRD WB and East Parmer Lane. The driver involved in the accident was identified as Guillermo Lagunas-Hernandez, born on December 14, 1952. Following the incident, Lagunas-Hernandez was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on October 6, 2024.

The crash is being investigated as Austin's 70th fatal crash of the year, resulting in a total of 75 fatalities so far in 2024. Comparatively, by this date in 2023, there had been 69 fatal crashes with a total of 72 fatalities.

According to APD statements, these details are part of an initial assessment and the investigation is ongoing. It is noted that fatality information may be subject to change as more information becomes available.
