The Economic Development Department has announced the hosting of Austin Small Business Week, which will take place from May 5 to May 9. The initiative includes a weeklong series of training sessions aimed at entrepreneurs, creatives, non-profits, and cooperatives. The program offers various in-person and virtual workshops, concentrating on business planning, marketing, funding, and technology. Events will occur at the department's offices located at 5202 East Ben White Blvd., Suites 300 and 400, and are available to the public at no charge.

One of the significant features of the week is the event titled "25 Years of Empowering Entrepreneurs – Let’s Celebrate!" This occasion marks a quarter-century of service by the City's Small Business Division, which has been instrumental in aiding countless entrepreneurs in launching and growing their businesses in Austin. The community is invited to join in the recognition of this milestone in supporting local economic achievement.

Anthony Segura, Interim Director of the Economic Development Department, stated, "Austin Small Business Week is a celebration of the bold, creative, and resilient spirit that defines our local business community... Additionally, these classes are geared toward financially empowering small businesses with the ability to sustain long-term financial growth. This milestone is more than a moment to reflect—it’s a call to keep building, innovating, and investing in the future of Austin’s economy."

Throughout the week, business owners will be recognized for earning the City of Austin Business Skills Certification, which requires the completion of a minimum of six business development classes.

This week’s events align with the National Small Business Week, which the U.S. Small Business Administration has celebrated for over fifty years. Community partners such as Economic Growth Business Incubator, BCL of Texas, PeopleFund, and the Diversity Ethnic Chamber Alliance will also provide small business training classes.
