On November 10, 2024, at approximately 6:31 p.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a report of a shooting or stabbing incident in the 1900 block of East William Cannon Drive. Multiple callers informed authorities about a male lying on metal rods and bleeding from possible stab wounds. Upon arrival, officers discovered Elijah Martinez, identified as the victim, with a chest wound. Martinez was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:12 p.m.

Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists were dispatched to investigate the scene and gather witness statements. Initial findings were unclear regarding whether Martinez had accidentally fallen or been attacked. However, video evidence later revealed that he was stabbed in a homeless encampment near an AutoZone store. Several individuals reportedly fled after the incident.

As of now, no suspects have been identified or arrests made. The APD urges anyone with information to contact them at 512-974-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. A reward up to $1,000 is offered for information leading to an arrest.

This incident marks Austin's 59th homicide investigation for the year 2024.
