Austin police investigate shooting on W Parmer Lane

On Monday, November 25, 2024, the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a shooting incident at 1212 W Parmer Lane around 1:40 p.m. The caller, identified as Steven Rippley, reported that he had shot someone under the bridge. Upon arrival, officers found a deceased male with apparent gunshot wounds. The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at 1:59 p.m.

Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists processed the scene and conducted interviews with witnesses. According to the investigation, Rippley had a history of conflict with the victim. Rippley alleged that the victim threatened him with a rock in hand, prompting him to shoot multiple times.

Steven Rippley, a 39-year-old white male, was arrested for first-degree murder and taken into custody at Travis County Jail.

The Austin Police Department is seeking information from anyone who might have details about this case. Tips can be provided anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.

This incident marks Austin's 64th homicide of 2024.
