Michael McCaul calls for release of Texan detainee as he returns home

Michael McCaul, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas' 10th district, recently took to social media to address the case of Mark Swidan, a Texan detained in China. McCaul has been vocal about Swidan's situation and his calls for action.

On November 26, 2024, McCaul highlighted that it had been twelve years since Mark Swidan was wrongfully detained in China. He stated: "Last week marked 12 years since Texan Mark Swidan was wrongfully detained in China. Mark should be home with his family this Thanksgiving. Instead, he is languishing in a Chinese prison while his health declines rapidly. I once again call on the CCP to immediately release Mark…"

The following day, November 27, 2024, McCaul shared an update expressing relief over Swidan's release: "I’m overjoyed to hear Mark Swidan is finally on his way home to Texas, just in time for Thanksgiving.
