The Austin Police Department (APD) is set to increase traffic and DWI enforcement starting Friday, December 13, 2024, continuing through Wednesday, January 1, 2025. This measure coincides with the holiday season when many people are out celebrating and visiting friends and family. The APD urges drivers to maintain safe driving practices and adhere to speed limits during this period.

Additionally, the department has made its DWI No Refusal Initiative a year-round effort. This initiative operates from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Sunday throughout the entire year. It aims to enforce DWI laws by encouraging responsible driving decisions and applying for blood search warrants on suspects who refuse breath or blood tests as mandated by law. The focus will also be on highways and high-speed roadways.

The Austin Police Department collaborates with the City of Austin Transportation and Public Works Department in efforts to prevent fatalities on Austin's streets, highways, and waterways. Their commitment is towards ensuring safety for both residents and visitors through education and enforcement measures.
