On December 4, 2024, at approximately 11:18 p.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a single-vehicle collision in the 500 block of East Koenig Lane. The driver involved was identified as Samuel J. Rodriguez Jr., who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident marks Austin's 82nd fatal crash of the year, contributing to a total of 87 fatalities. In comparison, on the same date in 2023, there were 82 fatal crashes resulting in 85 fatalities.
The investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing, and current information may be subject to change as more details emerge.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact APD's Vehicular Homicide unit at 512-974-8111. A reward of up to $1,000 may be offered for information leading to an arrest.
