Austin announces revised schedules for New Year's Day

The City of Austin has outlined changes to service schedules and office closures for New Year’s Day.

For Austin Resource Recovery, trash, recycling, and composting collections scheduled from Wednesday through Friday will be delayed by one day during the week of New Year's. Collections on Monday and Tuesday will remain unchanged. The Recycle and Reuse Drop-off Center and Austin Water's Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant will be closed on New Year's Day.

Austin Public Health will close its Environmental Health Services at the Rutherford Lane Campus, Office of Vital Records, all WIC and Shots for Tots clinics, and Neighbor Centers on January 1.

City of Austin Utilities Customer Care Call Center and Service Centers are set to close on December 24-25 and January 1. Customers can make utility payments online at coautilities.com or via phone. For power outages, customers should text OUT to 287846 or contact the relevant numbers provided.

Most Parks and Recreation facilities will not operate on New Year’s Day. Facility hours may vary by location; residents are advised to confirm before visiting.

All Austin Public Library locations will close early at 5 p.m. on December 31 and remain closed throughout January 1. Remote library resources are accessible via their website.

The Austin Animal Center is scheduled to close at 5 p.m. on December 31 with regular hours resuming January 2.

Austin Municipal Court locations will not operate on December 24-25.

Downtown Austin Community Court services including Violet KeepSafe Storage program (VKS), Homeless Services, Court Services, and Community Services will pause operations on January 1 in observance of the holiday but resume normal operations starting January 2 with VKS reopening at 7 a.m., Community Services at 7:30 a.m., followed by Homeless Services & Court Services at 8 a.m.

For inquiries about city services or further information, residents can call either 3-1-1 or use the number provided for additional assistance. Alternatively, service requests can be submitted using the Austin 3-1-1 mobile app.
