Fatal pedestrian crash marks Austin's 94th traffic death of the year

On December 29, 2024, at approximately 4:06 a.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 8900 block of South IH 35 NB. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, while the vehicle involved left without stopping.

This incident is under investigation as Austin's 94th fatal crash of the year, bringing the total number of fatalities to 101 for 2024. In comparison, by this date in 2023, there had been 89 fatal crashes resulting in 92 deaths.

The APD has noted that these statements are based on an initial assessment and that details may change as the investigation progresses. They urge anyone with information to contact their Vehicular Homicide unit at 512-974-8111.
