Austin police seek public's help identifying suspect in elderly assault

The Austin Police Department (APD) is seeking help from the public to identify a suspect involved in an assault on an elderly woman. The incident occurred on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at approximately 9:23 a.m. in the 7700 block of Burnet Road.

According to APD's Criminal Investigations Division, a verbal disturbance took place between a male and an elderly female on a bus. The situation escalated when the male assaulted the woman. A bystander intervened and restrained the suspect before he could also assault her.

The suspect is described as a Black male in his early 30s with a thin build, short black hair, and a patchy beard.

APD encourages anyone with information about this incident to submit tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting their website or calling 512-472-8477. Information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
