Fatal crash reported on S Mopac Expwy; pedestrian killed

On March 5, 2025, at approximately 7:05 p.m., a fatal traffic incident occurred in the 8800 Block of S. Mopac Expwy NB. Officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, an unidentified male, was pronounced dead at the scene. Both the driver and passenger of the vehicle were unharmed. The driver remained on site and is cooperating with authorities.

This event marks Austin's 11th fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 11 fatalities. Comparatively, on the same date in 2024, there were 12 fatal crashes leading to 12 deaths. The investigation into this recent incident is ongoing.

"These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending," APD stated. They also noted that "fatality information may change."
