Austin police investigate fatal collision on South Lamar Boulevard

On March 20, 2025, the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of South Lamar Boulevard SB and Gibson Street. The incident occurred around 7:03 p.m. when one vehicle collided with another before crashing into a cement retaining wall. The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while those in the second vehicle were unharmed and stayed on site to assist with the investigation.

This crash marks Austin's 19th fatal accident of 2025, leading to a total of 23 deaths this year. In comparison, by this date in 2024, there had been 18 fatal crashes resulting in 18 fatalities. The APD has stated that "these statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending." Therefore, details regarding fatalities may change as more information becomes available.
