The City of Austin Art in Public Places Program (AIPP), in partnership with the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) team, is calling for submissions from artists nationwide as well as local Austin-based artists and artist-led teams. The initiative seeks qualifications for collaboration, design, fabrication, and installation of new public art pieces at the airport.

This effort aligns with the city's 1985 AIPP ordinance that allocates 2% of eligible capital improvement project budgets to public art. The funding for these projects comes from airport revenue and revenue bonds rather than local taxpayer dollars.

Constance Y. White, who manages Art + Music at Airport Guest Services, emphasized the importance of art and music in reflecting Austin's unique character: “Together, art and music present a collective experiential language of authenticity and creativity that speaks uniquely to Austin’s vibe." She added that these installations create lasting impressions on travelers passing through AUS.

For Phase III of this opportunity, which includes installations at restroom entries, amenity lounges, and children's spaces, applications must be submitted by Monday March 31st, 2025. Additional details regarding opportunities, estimated budgets, and application requirements are available online.
