Local food banks in Williamson County are set to receive $500,000 in assistance from the county after the Commissioners Court approved the spending in a unanimous vote.

The money comes from the Wilco Forward Program, which is funded with federal CARES Act money, according to the county. Organizations that qualify for funding under the program will be reimbursed for expenditures they have made.

In order to be eligible, an organization must be a 501(c)(3) non profit that provides food or other services to community members. Expenses that can qualify for reimbursement are those that have been accrued due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eligible nonprofits may receive up to $50,000 as a one-time disbursement. The total each entity is compensated will be dependent on identified need.

To date, the Wilco Forward Program has distributed approximately $11.7 million in CARES Act funding around the community.
