The Carver Museum, Cultural and Genealogy Center is pleased to announce the opening reception of the new exhibition "Two Births and the Afterlife" by artist Aimée M. Everett. The reception will take place on Thursday, January 11 at 6 p.m. at 1165 Angelina St. This event will feature light bites, refreshments, and a captivating musical performance by Jon Deas, James Adkins, and Dayne Reliford in the museum lobby. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

"Two Births and the Afterlife" showcases a remarkable collection of artwork by Aimée M. Everett, a talented artist based in Milwaukee. In this exhibition, Everett explores the profound transformations experienced during childbirth and the subsequent journey of self-discovery into motherhood. She delves into the poignant realization that with every birth, there exists a simultaneous death - the departure of one's former identity to welcome a new, evolved self. This thought-provoking exhibition will be on display from January 11 through April 20, 2024.

Aimée M. Everett's artistic style is characterized by atmospheric works that transcend language through abstraction, minimalism, saturated colorways, form, and texture. Her work explores both personal and collective memory, offering a critical and introspective perspective. Everett's talent has been recognized and her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States. Her pieces can be found in collections at prestigious institutions in the U.S., France, and the United Kingdom. Originally from New Orleans, LA, Aimée M. Everett currently resides in Milwaukee, WI.

The Carver Museum, Cultural and Genealogy Center is a historic landmark dedicated to preserving Black history, culture, and aesthetic expression. Located in East Austin, the museum holds great significance as it served as Austin's first branch library and the first library that the African American community had access to. In 1980, it became Texas's first African American neighborhood museum. Today, the 39,000-square-foot facility offers galleries, meeting spaces, a darkroom, a dance studio, a 134-seat theatre, an archive, a community garden, and a genealogy center.
