Austin, TX - A tragic traffic accident occurred in the early hours of Monday, December 11, 2023, at the intersection of East 7th Street and Red River Street. The incident, which resulted in the death of Burt Nomura, has left the community in shock and mourning.
According to the Austin Police Department (APD), officers were called to the scene around 2:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. Sadly, Nomura, a white male born on July 2, 1961, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident fled the scene without stopping to render aid, leaving behind a devastated community and a grieving family. The APD is treating this incident as the 85th fatal crash of 2023 in Austin, resulting in 86 fatalities for the year. Comparatively, on the same date in 2022, there were 104 fatal crashes resulting in 108 deaths.
