Traffic Fatality in the 2200 Block of Airport Boulevard

On December 22, 2023, a fatal crash occurred in the 2200 Block of Airport Boulevard in Austin, Texas. The Austin Police Department (APD) responded to the incident at approximately 6:49 p.m. The crash involved a sedan and a pedestrian, identified as Willard Bateman.

Tragically, Bateman lost his life at the scene of the accident. The driver of the sedan remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. APD confirmed that the driver was not intoxicated.

This incident marks Austin's 88th fatal crash of 2023, resulting in a total of 91 fatalities for the year. Comparatively, on the same date in 2022, there were 115 fatal crashes leading to 121 deaths.
