Austin Police Department (APD) has reported a tragic incident that occurred on Thursday, March 14, 2024, in the 9800 block of North Mopac Boulevard. An unidentified pedestrian was involved in a fatal crash with a vehicle at around 7:58 p.m. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, who was not impaired, stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
In a statement, APD mentioned that this incident marks Austin's 15th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 15 fatalities so far this year. Comparatively, on the same date in 2023, there were 22 fatal crashes resulting in 22 fatalities.
