Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a shooting incident at the Fort Branch Apartments on 5800 Techni Center Drive, which resulted in the death of Joe Santos Gonzales. Austin-Travis County EMS and Austin Fire Department attempted to save Gonzales, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to reports, Gonzales and his roommate, Isidro Sanchez Navarrette, were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated into a fatal shooting. Detectives have since arrested Navarrette, who is now facing charges of First-Degree Murder and is held in the Travis County jail.
The authorities have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward, stating, "Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS." Additionally, anonymous tips can be submitted through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.
This tragic incident marks Austin's 13th homicide of 2024, underscoring the importance of swift and thorough investigations in such cases.
