Flying to the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) is about to become more accessible. Starting October 7, 2024, Delta Air Lines will introduce a new nonstop service from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to Valley International Airport (HRL) in Harlingen, Texas. This year-round service will operate once daily, facilitating travel to the southern tip of Texas.

Delta's new flight to Harlingen will be operated by SkyWest Airlines under the Delta Connection brand. The Embraer E175 aircraft, known for its spacious two-class configuration, will service the route. The E175 offers 76 seats, with 12 in first class and 64 seats in the main cabin, including 20 Delta Comfort+ seats. Passengers will have access to in-flight WiFi, power outlets, and USB ports during the approximately 1.5-hour flight.

Harlingen is located in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley and is known for its rich history, art, shopping, and vibrant culture. Attractions include Jackson Street’s antique district and the original Iwo Jima Memorial. The historic downtown district features preserved architecture, unique shops, and local eateries offering authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine.

The city hosts various festivals and events throughout the year that celebrate local cuisine and cultural heritage. Additionally, Harlingen serves as a gateway to South Padre Island's beaches, making it a popular destination for beachgoers and nature enthusiasts.

With over 1,200 acres of public parkland, Harlingen offers outdoor activities such as bird watching at Arroyo Colorado—a World Birding Center location with hiking trails—and Hugh Ramsey National Park with nature trails and picnic areas.

For those seeking relaxation on the beach or an exploration of local culture and outdoor activities, Harlingen provides diverse options. Delta's new daily service starting October 7 aims to enhance convenience for travelers heading to this region.
