Passenger traffic rises at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in May

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) reported a 4.37% increase in passenger traffic for May 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, with a total of 2,068,404 passengers. This figure marks the busiest month on record at AUS, surpassing the previous record set in July 2023 by an additional 27,423 passengers.

For May 2024, enplanements totaled 1,056,171, reflecting a 4.16% rise from May 2023. Southwest Airlines recorded significant growth with 870,751 passengers, up by 15.3%. Conversely, American Airlines saw a decline of 17.8%, totaling 394,594 passengers. Delta Air Lines experienced a substantial increase of 42.4%, with their passenger count reaching 332,802.

In terms of air cargo for May 2024, AUS handled a total of 26,434,406 pounds—a rise of 10.22% from May last year. Notably, international air cargo surged by nearly seventy percent to reach almost two million pounds.

General aviation operations decreased by approximately thirteen percent in May to total just over three thousand flights.

For the first five months of the year (January – May), AUS saw a modest growth in passenger traffic at just under one percent compared to the same period in the previous year.

Cargo transport showed varied performance among carriers: Federal Express increased its cargo weight by almost nine percent while United Parcel Services experienced an eleven percent decrease.

Overall aircraft operations for this period fell by about four and a half percent compared to January through May last year.
