Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run on West William Cannon Drive

On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at approximately 12:52 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 1000 block of West William Cannon Drive. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. The vehicle involved did not stop and left the scene.

This incident marks Austin’s 46th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 49 fatalities for the year. By comparison, on the same date in 2023, there had been 55 fatal crashes leading to 58 fatalities.

The statements provided are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash; the investigation is ongoing and details may change.

Anyone with information is urged to contact APD's Vehicular Homicide unit at 512-974-8111. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information that leads to an arrest.
