Motorcyclist killed in crash on North MoPac Expressway NB

On Sunday, July 28, 2024, at approximately 3:38 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between a motorcycle and an SUV in the 8600 block of North MoPac Expressway NB. The motorcyclist collided with the back of the SUV, fell into the roadway, and was subsequently hit by an unknown vehicle. The motorcycle rider was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the SUV remained on site and is cooperating with the investigation. The unidentified vehicle did not stop and left the scene.

This incident marks Austin’s 45th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in a total of 48 fatalities for the year. By comparison, as of this date in 2023, there had been 53 fatal crashes leading to 53 fatalities.

The statements provided are based on the initial assessment of the fatal crash; however, the investigation is still ongoing and fatality information may be subject to change.

A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information that leads to an arrest.
