On October 19, 2024, at approximately 4:50 a.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a fatal incident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The collision occurred at the intersection of S US 183 Highway SB and Burleson Road. The pedestrian, whose identity remains unknown, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver involved in the crash was not injured and is cooperating with authorities.
The incident marks Austin's 72nd fatal crash of the year, resulting in a total of 77 fatalities. By comparison, on the same date last year, there had been 73 fatal crashes with 76 fatalities.
