Congressman Michael McCaul of Texas has expressed strong criticism of the Biden-Harris administration following the release of U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Fiscal Year 2024 migrant encounter statistics. The figures show that over 2.1 million encounters have occurred this fiscal year.

In his statement, McCaul, who is the chairman emeritus of the House Committee on Homeland Security, remarked, "Under the Biden-Harris administration, America’s border is wide open, enabling terrorists, violent criminals, and drug traffickers to walk right into our country." He further commented on the scale of the encounters: "Just this year, President Biden and Vice President Harris have let over 2.1 million people into our country — a number only surpassed by the two previous years of the Biden-Harris administration."

McCaul compared these numbers to those during his tenure as chair of the Homeland Security Committee under former President Trump, suggesting that such high figures were unimaginable at that time. He emphasized that Texans are particularly affected by what he describes as a crisis and criticized what he perceives as attempts by the current administration to obscure these issues.
