Today, Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, expressed his support for Governor Abbott's executive orders aimed at countering the influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in Texas.
"As chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I have seen firsthand the dangers the Chinese Communist Party poses to the United States," said Rep. McCaul. "Texas is leading the charge in combating the CCP with the help of Governor Abbott’s leadership. We cannot sit idly by while China attempts to infiltrate our country and harm U.S. national security. These executive orders send a strong message of deterrence to the CCP: Don’t mess with Texas."
Governor Abbott has issued two executive orders this week targeting activities linked to the CCP. The first order focuses on addressing harassment by directing the Department of Public Safety to identify and prosecute individuals who harass Texans on behalf of the CCP. The second order mandates all state agencies and higher education institutions to strengthen their systems and protect critical infrastructure, intellectual property, and personal information from access by hostile foreign nations.
