APD Homicide Unit Detectives are seeking public assistance in identifying a person of interest related to the homicide investigation on Rutland Drive. The incident occurred on November 16, 2024, at approximately 4:07 a.m. when officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area.

Upon arrival, Austin Police Department (APD) officers discovered a female victim with an apparent gunshot wound inside an apartment. Despite life-saving efforts by Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS), she was pronounced dead at 4:37 a.m.

Officers detained Noah Mata, a 36-year-old Hispanic male, from the neighboring apartment where the shot was fired. Investigations revealed that Mata attempted to take a gun from another male in his apartment when it discharged, resulting in the death of the woman next door.

Mata has been arrested for first-degree aggravated robbery and is currently held in Travis County jail.

Detectives urge anyone with information to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be offered for information leading to an arrest.

This case marks Austin's 62nd homicide investigation for 2024.
