U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul has criticized President Biden's decision to transfer 11 detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to Oman. McCaul, who is the chairman emeritus of the House Homeland Security and Foreign Affairs Committees, expressed his concerns in a recent statement.

"President Biden's transfer of 11 Gitmo prisoners is highly reckless, dangerously naive, and — in the wake of last week’s horrific New Orleans attack — indefensible," said McCaul. He emphasized that the administration should focus on countering terrorism rather than showing leniency towards individuals he described as "the world’s most hardened criminal terrorists."

McCaul recalled his visit to Guantanamo Bay and his encounter with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. "I will never forget my chilling experience of visiting Gitmo and seeing Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in his cell," he stated. He stressed that these individuals should remain detained at Guantanamo Bay to ensure they cannot pose a threat again.
