U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul, a Republican from Texas and chairman emeritus of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has issued a statement regarding the Biden administration's new guidance on missile technology exports. Throughout his chairmanship, McCaul focused on strengthening and advancing the AUKUS security partnership.

McCaul expressed cautious optimism about the announcement: "While this announcement takes a step in the right direction, it is still far too little too late. Chairman Xi and his Chinese Communist Party are not slowing down in their malign agenda — and the U.S. and its allies must rise quickly to face that challenge."

He emphasized the need for swift action from the U.S. and its allies to address challenges posed by China. McCaul highlighted his ongoing efforts to encourage meaningful action on AUKUS transfers for missile technology over the past year.

Regarding the new policy, McCaul stated, “The devil will be in the details of this new policy, which is why I will be closely monitoring its implementation under the new Trump administration." He also mentioned his intention to continue working on advancing legislation related to missile technology control.

In conclusion, McCaul reiterated his commitment to strengthening international partnerships through legislative measures like the MTCR Act he co-led in Congress, aiming to fortify alliances against perceived threats from China.
