On March 24, 2024, a collision occurred at approximately 2:50 a.m. in the 4600 block of N IH 35 NB involving multiple vehicles. A red Hyundai was stalled when a black F-150 stopped behind it. Shortly after, a Dodge collided with the F-150, causing it to flip onto the Hyundai.
Investigations revealed that a white Tesla and a blue Dodge were racing from N IH35 and 12th Street, leading to the crash. The driver of the Tesla assisted the Dodge's driver, and both fled in the Tesla.
The investigation identified Andy Saldana Rocha and Jose Huerta as the drivers involved in racing. Under Texas Transportation Code SEC 545.420, any person participating in "Racing on a Highway" can be charged whether they are directly involved in an accident or not.
Six victims reported injuries ranging from bodily harm to serious injury. Jose Huerta is currently detained, while Andy Saldana Rocha remains at large.
Andy Saldana Rocha, described as a Hispanic male aged 20, faces several charges: five counts of Accident Involving Bodily Injury, one count of Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury, five counts of Racing on Highway Involving Bodily Injury, and one count of Racing on Highway Involving Serious Bodily Injury.
Jose Huerta, a Hispanic male aged 19, faces five counts of Racing on Highway Involving Bodily Injury and one count of Racing on Highway Involving Serious Bodily Injury.
Authorities encourage anyone with information to submit tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. A reward up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.
