Motorcycle crash claims life in Austin; police seek public assistance

On December 17, 2024, at approximately 7:09 p.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a fatal collision at the intersection of West Parmer Lane and Ganymede Drive. The incident involved a motorcycle and a motor vehicle. The motorcyclist, identified as Draven Rains Avila, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the motor vehicle remained on site, showed no signs of impairment, and cooperated with law enforcement during the investigation.

This crash marks Austin's 91st fatal accident in 2024, resulting in a total of 97 fatalities. Comparatively, by this date in 2023, there had been 88 fatal crashes leading to 91 deaths.

The APD noted that these details are part of an initial assessment and that the investigation is ongoing. They also indicated that information regarding fatalities might be subject to change.
