On December 25, 2024, at around 8:37 p.m., a fatal accident occurred in the 7100 block of East US Highway 290 WB. Officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a collision involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian. The motorcyclist, identified as Kendra Dorby Mottley, and an unidentified pedestrian were both pronounced dead at the scene.
This incident marks Austin's 92nd fatal crash of the year, resulting in a total of 99 fatalities. In comparison, by this date in 2023, there had been 89 fatal crashes leading to 92 fatalities.
The APD is still investigating this tragic event. "These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash," officials noted, adding that "fatality information may change."
