Single vehicle crash claims life on East US HWY 290

On December 26, 2024, at around 3:31 a.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 9400 block of East Highway 290 EB at the Giles Lane Exit. The driver involved in the accident was identified as Abraham Cantu, a Hispanic male born on November 24, 1997. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

This incident marks Austin's 93rd fatal crash of the year, bringing the total number of fatalities to 100. In comparison, by this date in 2023, there had been 89 fatal crashes resulting in 92 fatalities.
