The City of Austin's Economic Development Department is supporting the 12th Annual Youth Career Fest, an event aimed at helping high school students in the Austin area explore career opportunities. Hosted by the Austin Youth Council, this initiative seeks to guide students in planning their educational and professional futures.
"Youth Career Fest demonstrates the importance of equipping our future workforce with the knowledge and connections they need to succeed," stated Anthony Segura, Interim Director of the Economic Development Department. "We are proud to support the next generation of innovators and changemakers to help them discover their passions, connect with mentors, and envision their futures."
Since its inception in 2013 by the Austin Youth Council, Youth Career Fest has been a platform for high school students to access resources that aid in making informed decisions about entering the workforce or pursuing higher education. The council comprises high school students who represent youth voices within local government and designed this event to connect students with career opportunities.
This year's fest will feature organizations such as St. David’s HealthCare, Texas Workforce Solutions, Samsung, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, various State of Texas and City departments. Universities including The University of Texas at Austin, Texas State University, the University of Alabama, and Texas A&M University will also participate. Over 50 schools from districts like Austin ISD, Leander ISD, Round Rock ISD, and Hays CISD have registered more than 3,500 students from grades 8-12 to attend.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, January 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Palmer Events Center located at 900 Barton Springs Road.
